Attached to this message are some files we use to administrate the program at our church. Feel free to use/change etc.
Files attached are:
- Course Registration Form (in Word)
- Excel Administration File (attendance, payments etc.)
- Student Procedures (we give to each student so they know how we run the program).
I have other files we have created that I'm willing to share if you're interested...including a survey to give out at the end of each course, mapping out the courses we offer until 2012, and a job description for course facilitators.
Do you have any resources you're willing to share?
Our materials are primarily online at http://www.constancefree.org/258743.ihtml. We have an introduction to the overall program, individual course pages (with syllabus stripped of "online course" content), online registration and payment, and online bookstore to purchase required textbooks and "honors" reading.
I'm also attaching a Powerpoint presentation that I have used in the Fall for an "orientation night" prior to beginning the Introduction to Theology course. Basically I hold that two weeks prior to the first class so students have time to order their textbooks. We review some of the syllabus materials and give a general introduction to the program so we don't have to do that the first night of class.
You'll see other elements there. I use some data from the "Reveal" study from Willow Creek to emphasize self-directed spiritual growth. We include additional discussion on what it means to do theology and talk about our attitudes/motivations as we do so. I hand out a copy of our denomination's statement of faith and talk about how we will during the TTP cover every aspect of our statement of faith in greater detail as we progress through the six courses. I also give students Wayne Grudem's comments on leaving Trinity (see http://wvvw.tiu.edu/tiu/publications/trinitymagazine/summer2001leaving), which I like to use because it is such a great testimony to the character and heart of the author of their primary textbook.
This year I tried something new. My goal here is to promote the school by offering these free seminars to anyone that is interested in attending. I felt that if I could present certain topics that were interesting enough, I might be able to help people understand the need for further study (i.e. TTP). They are kind of teaser lectures. In this case I used the angle "That there are so many doctrines, how does one know which to believe?" The answer, well lets go back, to the beginning and see what the early church fathers believed. This turned out to be a very good idea. We only offer them during our school semester. The lecture range from 1-2 hours, and we also supplied coffee and donuts. We are having them on Saturday mornings starting at 10am. We did our first one and the response was good.
I am attaching the Power Point presentation for anyone to use as they see fit. I only have the first Power Point on Historic Christianity. As I complete the rest I will also share those.
This series included the following lectures:
Historic Christianity - Who cares? Will deal with what the early church fathers believed, and why it matters to us today. There are so many doctrines, how does one know which to believe? Which ones are essential to ones salvation?
Does God know all things? Does God know the future? Or does he only the past and the present exhaustively? Christians have always held to a view that God knows all things, including the future, but recently it has come under the microscope, and has been brought into question. Maybe God only knows the future in terms of possibilities, and takes divine risks with his creation, in order to preserve free will. We will seek to provide a biblical look at both views in an irenic manner.
The Gender Debate - Will deal with the role of men and women in the church? Should women be allowed to teach, preach or be pastors? This is an issue that is hotly debated, and should not be ignore. This lecture will seek to help us have a better understanding of the Gender issue.
Putting Jesus in His Place - Will deal with Who is Jesus? Christians have affirmed for nearly two thousands years that Jesus is God, and yet it is frequently and openly called into question today, not just by those who reject the Bible, but surprisingly many who embrace the authority of the Scriptures. This lecture will seek to demonstrates that the New Testament from beginning to end clearly reveals Jesus divine identity.
You are more than welcome to modify, change, add, delete any portion of this Power Point Presentation. If you add something really cool, it would be nice if you forward me a copy. Also feel free to remove our logo. This can be done by selecting View -> Master -> Slide Master
